Great photography isn’t just about technique - it comes from having a love and feel for the subject you are photographing.
I am a specialist equine and pet photographer with a genuine passion for working with animals. Although I'm based in the Scottish Borders I love to take commissions from all over the UK.
I am very passionate about animals and their welfare. I have had pets my whole life, including horses, ponies, dogs, cats, hamsters, gerbils and rats. Most of them have been rescues and strays. I have enjoyed the wonderful and unique personalities of each and every one of them.
All your animals are different too, and I aim to capture their unique personalites, expressions and characters. I know this requires time and patience and I have plenty of that!
I have my own horses and I have studied horse psychology and behaviour, so I have some understanding of their nature and the way they communicate and see the world. This is definitely a help when it comes to approaching horses and getting to know them for a photoshoot. Because I am a horse owner I am very comfortable in their presence and I know the little details that make a great shot (ears forward for example).
I aim for the photoshoot to be informal, relaxed and fun. I use natural light and as well as traditional style portraits, I love to shoot close ups of the details and unusual angles to make the shots that little bit different, so you end up with something unique of your pet or you and your pet.
